Is the Well Connection service included in my benefits?

Telehealth benefits cover live video visits with Well Connection doctors and providers, as well as local doctors and providers in the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts network who offer covered services using live video visits through a service other than Well Connection. To find out if you have this benefit, call Member Service at the number on the front of your ID card, or log in to your MyBlue account and follow these steps: 

  1. Go to Review My Benefits
  2. Select your plan name
  3. Enter telehealth in the search box
  4. Select one of the medical or behaviroal health links
  5. Review the information in the third bullet

Is Well Connection secure?

Yes. We require all Well Connection doctors and providers to maintain private and secure online access that allows you to have safe and confidential visits. All visits are treated in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

How does Well Connection work?

If you have this benefit, you can use the Well Connection app on a mobile device or visit wellconnection.com. As long as you or your family members have an internet connection and a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a webcam you can get medical and behavioral health care across the country. Simply log in, choose the type of care you want, and pick a provider.

How does Well Connection work with a managed care plan like an HMO?

You don’t need a referral to use Well Connection. However, it's always important to keep your primary care provider informed about any care you receive from Well Connection doctors and providers. That's because your primary care provider may have specific recommendations based on your medical history.

How will information from a Well Connection visit be sent to my primary care provider?

Once your Well Connection visit has ended, you'll receive a summary of your visit. You're encouraged to share the summary with your primary care provider.

Can I see my local doctors and providers?

Yes. Your telehealth benefit includes access to the Well Connection national network, which includes doctors and providers across the country, as well as access to local doctors and providers in the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts network that offer covered services through other video visit services.

Who are the Well Connection doctors?

Licensed doctors and providers in the Well Connection network have an average of 15 years of experience. They can look up your medical history, diagnose and treat your symptoms, and prescribe medication, if necessary. Please note that doctors and providers can't write prescriptions for controlled substances while delivering care online.

What services does a Well Connection doctor provide?

Just like an in-person visit, doctors and providers can review your medical history, answer questions, diagnose and treat medical and behavioral health issues, and prescribe medication for many common conditions, if necessary.

Can I get a prescription through Well Connection?

Yes, depending on state law where the care is being given and the clinical prescribing rules and standards of care. If a doctor deems it appropriate, they may write a prescription for certain medical conditions and have it sent to your preferred pharmacy. However, doctors aren't able to write a prescription for controlled substances while delivering care online. A consultation isn't a guarantee for a prescription.

Please Note: Doctors and providers can't write prescriptions for behavioral health issues on Well Connection.

Is Well Connection appropriate for emergencies?

No. For serious or life-threatening conditions, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

What if my doctor offers live video visits using a service other than Well Connection?

If you have this benefit, you’re covered for live video visits with doctors and providers in the Well Connection national network, as well as local doctors and providers in the Blue Cross Blue Shield network that choose to offer live video visits through their own service.

Can I use Find a Doctor & Estimate Costs to look up local doctors who provide live video visit services?

Yes. You can search for local doctors and providers in the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts network who offer live video visits by going to Find a Doctor and selecting Tech Savvy Office under Refine Your Results. To find doctors and providers through Well Connection, you must search for them on the Well Connection app or at wellconnnection.com.
